She is a mother of two married children, a grandmother of three nature-loving young grandchildren, and partners with a butterfly loving husband. in 2018 she authored her first children’s book, butterfly grandma: monarchs! followed by Butterfly grandma: Black Swallowtail! two years late in 2020. Both books lovingly written and illustrated for and with her grandchildren.
She began her first butterfly garden in 2004, before she knew of the plight of the monarchs. In 2018, the total monarch butterfly population had decreased more than 80% over the past 20 years, according to the National Wildlife Federation. Planting native milkweed species and nectar plants is one way in which she has helped monarchs and all pollinators.
